Below you will find assets such as logos, brand guidelines and language, email signatures, and other elements you may use to make updates.

If you are teaching in the Spring 2025 quarter: At your discretion, you may update your instructional materials for the Spring term – slides, welcome videos, and other files – to reflect the new name. If you choose to update your materials, please update all of them to help avoid learner confusion. DO NOT UPDATE Winter term course materials.

For all instructors: all course materials MUST be updated prior to the Summer 2025 term.

The Teaching and Learning Specialist team will update Canvas Blueprint course materials that are not unique to you, such as syllabi, and you’ll see new language reflected in Canvas.

IMPORTANT! Do not update public-facing materials, including Linked-In profiles, until March 11, when the name change will be publicly announced. Please see our FAQ below for additional guidance and answers to questions regarding the name change.

In the spirit of healing, I acknowledge and honor the Tsétsêhéstâhese (Cheyenne) and Hinono'eiteen (Arapaho) Tribes, the original peoples of the land upon which University of Denver stands.

I offer gratitude to the indigenous people who stewarded this land and water long before we arrived. Whose land are you on?

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the name changing?

In 1938 University College was founded to help working adults achieve their dream of earning a college degree. Over the ensuing decades, we have grown to become a national leader in adult education, offering an array of academic and noncredit programs that help adults acquire new skills to grow professionally and personally.

Our new name – College of Professional Studies – reflects the growing importance of adult-serving programs within higher education and the scope of our broad portfolio of learning opportunities, including master’s and bachelor’s degrees and certificates, noncredit professional development programs, and opportunities for learners to explore personal interests, expand their knowledge, and connect with their community.

The new name signals our significant impact in Colorado and across the nation, as we serve nearly 8,000 learners from every state and around the world, and partner with corporate and nonprofit organizations to expand access to education that improves lives and communities.

Finally, the College of Professional Studies aligns with our role as a national leader in adult professional and continuing education, emphasizing our important voice in local and national conversations on educational access, workforce development, learning technology, and the future of work.

When does the new name take effect?

Our name change officially takes effect March 11, but we anticipate the next couple of months will be a transition period as we collectively work to establish our College of Professional Studies name.

Will courses I teach be updated?

College of Professional Studies staff will update Canvas course content as containers are prepared each term in a phased approach. That said, you are responsible for updating slides, videos, or handouts you use in your courses.

Instructors teaching in the 2025 spring quarter are encouraged, but not required, to update their course materials with the new name.

Effective with the 2025 summer quarter, instructors are required to update all course materials with the new name.

What do I need to do when the new name launches on Tuesday, March 11?

There are two items we ask adjunct faculty to address on March 11.

  • Bookmark the new college website: ProfessionalStudies.du.edu. Any older web links and pages will automatically redirect to the corresponding page on the College of Professional Studies website.
  • Update your DU email signature, resume, and any professional listings like LinkedIn with the new College name.
Will shared links to the University College website redirect to College of Professional Studies?

Yes! Any older web links and pages will redirect to College of Professional Studies.

Will my login details change?

No. Your email, Canvas, and other DU application access will not change with the new College name.

How shall I refer to the College if a former student requests a letter of recommendation?

We suggest you use the College’s new name. If you wish, you may include a parenthetical “(formerly University College).”

Does the name change impact curriculum, course schedules, or instructor compensation?

The name change does not impact curriculum, course, schedules, or adjunct instructor compensation. A new version of the Teaching Excellence Program badge for instructors will be issued with the new name, but you may still display the badge with the University College name.
