Weather Closure Policy for In-Person Classes

Your safety is our top priority. Please use your best judgment when deciding whether to travel to class during inclement weather.

General Closure Guidelines

In-person classes at each OLLI at DU location follow the weather closure decisions of the corresponding local school district or the University of Denver (DU), as outlined below.

  • If the local school district or DU campus (for DU-based classes) is closed, OLLI classes at that location are cancelled.
  • If the school district announces a delayed start, OLLI classes will still be held at their regularly scheduled time.
  • If the local school district has an in-service day that coincides with bad weather, a closure may not be announced publicly. In those cases, please check the OLLI website or call the OLLI office for location-specific updates.
  • If you are uncertain about whether your class will be held, please call the OLLI office at 303-871-3090. The voicemail greeting will be updated by 7:00 a.m. on days with weather concerns to reflect any closures or schedule changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is OLLI at DU?

OLLI at DU (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Denver) offers enriching and engaging educational programs designed especially for adults aged 50 and better. With a wide variety of in-person and online courses, lectures, and social events, we create a welcoming community where learning is lifelong and friendships flourish. OLLI at DU is proud to be part of a national network of 120+ Osher Institutes, supported by a generous endowment from the Bernard Osher Foundation.

What is the Bernard Osher Foundation?

The Bernard Osher Foundation, based in San Francisco, was established in 1977 by philanthropist Bernard Osher. It supports lifelong learning programs for older adults at more than 120 colleges and universities across the U.S. Thanks to the Foundation’s vision and generosity, OLLI at DU is part of a vibrant national movement that promotes intellectual engagement and community for adults 50 and better.

Why am I seeing the term OLLI?

“OLLI” is short for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. It’s simply an easier way to refer to the program you know and love—same mission, same quality programming, just a shorter name.

Who can join OLLI at DU?

Anyone aged 50 and better who enjoys learning for the joy of it! Our members come from all walks of life and educational backgrounds. If you’re curious, open to new ideas, and want to connect with others who share your love of learning, OLLI is for you.

Do I have to be a member to enroll in courses?

Yes. OLLI is a membership-based program, and becoming a member is your gateway to registering for our enriching classes and events. Your membership helps keep our programs going strong and builds a thriving community of lifelong learners.

What does my membership fee include?

Membership includes access to course registration, special member-only programs, and complimentary bonus lectures, activities, and social events offered throughout the year. Please note that some courses, summer and winter webinar series, field trips, and fitness classes require additional registration fees beyond your membership dues.

How are course fees determined?

Course fees are based on the length of the class. For example, a 4-week course is typically $50, and an 8-week course is $70.

Are membership and course fees refundable?

Membership fees are generally nonrefundable. Course fees are also typically nonrefundable; however, if a class doesn’t turn out to be the right fit, you may request to transfer into another course during the same term, as long as space is available. Refunds may also be considered on a case-by-case basis in extenuating circumstances.

When is registration and when do classes begin?

Registration usually opens about a month before the start of each term, and you can register all the way up to the first day of class.

Here are the 2025–2026 term dates:

Fall Term:

  • Registration begins August 18, 2025
  • Classes run September 15 – November 7, 2025

How do I register for courses and programs?

If you’re new or need help, step-by-step guides are available—or feel free to reach out to our office. Limited in-person registration times are also available; check the website for details.

What if a class is full?

No problem! You can add your name to the waitlist for any full class. If a spot opens up, we’ll contact you so you can decide whether to enroll.

Where are in-person courses held?

We offer classes at six convenient locations across the Denver metro area, including Central Denver, DU’s campus, Littleton, Golden, and Broomfield. You can find detailed maps and addresses on our website, and each course listing includes the specific location. All of our locations are wheelchair accessible.

What are the typical hours for courses and events?

Contact our office for guidance and information on upcoming proposal deadlines.

Can I make a donation to OLLI at DU?

Absolutely—and thank you for considering it! Donations help support and grow our programs. Contributions are tax-deductible and can be made easily through our website or by contacting our office.

Can I gift a membership or course?

Yes! Giving the gift of lifelong learning is a thoughtful and meaningful way to share OLLI with a friend or loved one. Contact us and we’ll help you arrange a gift certificate.

Do you cancel courses due to weather?

Yes, sometimes weather impacts our in-person classes. We follow the closure policy of the local school district for each course location. If the district closes due to severe weather, OLLI classes at that location will be canceled. If the district calls for a delayed start, OLLI classes will still run on time. For classes held on DU’s campus, we follow the University of Denver’s weather decisions. When in doubt, give our office a call—we’re happy to confirm the status for you.

How do I stay informed about upcoming courses and events?

It’s easy to stay in the loop! Sign up for our free weekly email newsletter on the OLLI at DU website. You’ll also find up-to-date information about classes, registration, and events on our website. For even more community news and highlights, follow us on social media!
